tabata protocol.

I have been doing a new high intensity workout at the gym these days. It’s called the tabata protocol. The idea is that you do any activity at a super high intensity for 20 seconds and then come right down to almost resting for 10 seconds, and repeat for a total of 8 times. 4 minutes total other than the warm up and cool down.It is supposed to be amazing for fat burning (I will let you know!) When I first heard about this I thought I can do anything for 4 minutes, how hard can it be? It is sooooo flippin’ hard. I do it on the treadmill, I set the incline @ 4% and then get the speed up to 8.5. I run like that for the 20 seconds and then hop off for the ten. I have run at that speed for minute intervals but I always take it down to a jog for 90 seconds and repeat that, so I figured this Tabata protocol would be easier, but it turns out a ten second break is barely enough time to catch your breath. Anyhow I kicked my own a** at the gym tonight. :)

AAAARRGHHHHH

I just can’t seem to lose any more weight no matter what I do. Ate right all week exercised like a maniac. All for a one pound gain. What am I doing wrong. I try to keep it in perspective, but I can’t seem to today.

how are you coming up with your goal weights?

The title says it all. I was just curious how you have decided where you want to end up.

Interval training. Is too much cardio a bad thing?

Hey, I was just wondering what you all new about interval training, or circuit training. I’ve been going cardio crazy and I need to switch it up. I’ve read that too much cardio can actually be detrimental to weight loss. The story is that with too much cardio your body becomes too efficient and burns less calories. It makes sense to me, as my stamina and endurance have increased my weight loss has all but stopped. I am going to really switch things up at the gym from now on, and if any of you have any advice on what has helped, PLEASE let me know. Thanks

maybe this is where I am supposed to be.

I hit a plateau at 172 lbs, and I got passed that, only to plateau again at 168. Is it possible that I am exercising too much? I went to the Gym yesterday and worked out for a bit over an hour. Then when I was at work someone bought me an ice cream, so I went back to the gym after work for an hour. In hindsight that seems a little extreme. I have been aiming for a BMI of 22 which for me is 154, that seemed like a healthy and reasonable weight. But I think I need to step back and take a look at myself and reassess things. I am 5 foot 10, 168 lbs and my measurements are chest 36, waist 28, hips 38, I wear a size 8 or a 10. I would like to lose a couple of inches on my hips and tone up my mid section but I really think I have to stop obsessing with the number on the scale and the fact that it’s not moving and realize that I am no longer the fat mom. I need to congratulate myself on the fact that I am now the mom who can run for miles and hike and isn’t afraid of physical activity or being seen in public in a swimsuit. It may seem like I am tooting my own horn, but I think I need to, just to get myself to see that while going to the gym twice in one day may not be a bad thing but going the second time just because you had one scoop of grapefruit sorbetto and you couldn’t let it go until you knew you had run it off may not be a good thing.

Fat Gut.

I have lost over 30 pounds and I have another 15 to 20 to go, but no matter how much I lose I can’t imagine getting rid of my belly fat. I have always had a gut, that’s where I keep most of my weight. I hate it. I do crunches and push-ups and a ton of other ab exercises, but if any of you have any advice for what worked for you in getting rid of stubborn stomach rolls, I’m all ears.

I Hiked up a mountain.

My fitness goal when I started on this web site was to hike mountains. This past saturday that’s exactly what I did. I went up a local mountain. It was 7 k round trip with a 700 meter gain. I hiked the same mountain about 6 years ago and it took me almost 3 hours to get up to the top and I thought I was dying the entire time. This time I went up and down in 3 hours and then I went to work afterwards. I can’t believe the energy I have. It’s amazing. Hiking wasn’t so bad really. I don’t think I’m a convert just yet but you never know what the future holds. The weirdest thing is that I gained 3.7 lbs from one day to the next. There is no way that I ate the 14000 calories for that to have happened. I’ve heard that that can happen after intense activity, you can hold a ton of water weight. From what I’ve read it’s always around 4 lbs. so I’m not really gonna sweat it. According to what I read I should have burned around 1500 calories from the hike so, maybe it’ll register tomorrow. Oh well, it doesn’t really matter, I’m proud of myself for today.
